“Ya, I have a twin, but we don’t look alike”
August 31, 2008So this morning I had to cancel a photoshoot because my camera stopped working. The shutter got stuck and I thought I was going to have to send it in for some much needed matinence (also the weather was crap.) But! Thanks to google I discoverd that by rubbing an earaser on the lens’s sensor and taking the bettery out for 5 mintues the problem was solved (thank god.) So….feeling inspired and not knowing who to shoot since I had the client rescedual for next week..I dragged my twin sister Marilyn down the street for a mini shoot. After a few shots we switched places and she took some photos of me!

Interestingly enough, that’s the exact same film camera I use today.

Roadtrip- The Newell Version
August 24, 2008Believe it or not, we’ve actually piled one more in that car, (but Promise had to stay home this time since she had to go to work).Though, Marilyn would normally be chillin in the trunk, next to all of our luggage. Don’t ask me how it was possible. We are the Newells. We are invincible.

That would be me, smooshed on the bottom. Surprisingly is was pretty comfortable.

“Where are you from?” – an English assignment
August 20, 2008Sort of makes me cringe on account of the fact that I am NOT a writer. But what the heck. This might not be up long.
I am from the dust, created with a simple breath
I am from the look in my father’s eyes and the notion in my mother’s mind
Sunday afternoons spent sleeping on the porch swing,
Saturday mornings running a stick across the white picket fence
I am from the main street and the lake, a cold green jumping from the dock
The summers spent in miniature towns on giant bread shaped rocks
Magnetic forts and crowns, oh and when that girl asked us if we had salt
I am from home made blow pops that didn’t turn out and the time I cried because I broke her favorite dish
And my ear pressed against the cup to the door, listening to hushed words
I am from untold secrets and pinky promises
Kindergarten kisses, itchy turtle necks, friendship clubs
Doing, “what you’re told, when you’re told with the right attitude”
I am from humid summers and not so cold winters
Long road trips with us kids squirming in the back
One a.m. trips to 7/11 even though you couldn’t drive
Nachos every Christmas Eve and the day I realized the candy jawbreakers were just to keep us quiet.
I am from the days when yes meant yes and no meant no
The time they told me they would see me later but never did and the fact that I was okay with that
Cat Stevens in the park
Staying out until dark
Taking your picture even when you didn’t want me to, and the smile you still gave me
I am from friends that let you down but best friends that never forget
Out dated Polaroid film and long bike rides around town
Wayne’s World at midnight, chocolate hay stacks that we ate until we were sick
I am from the time when it was okay to cry and when second guessing yourself was a part of life
I am from mistakes made and lessons learned and the time I said my name over and over until it didn’t sound like my name anymore
I am from when it stopped being theory and turned into real life, because theory was a lot easier.

Summer Lee
August 15, 2008[you're probably wondering why home girl can never manage to properly focus her film shots. Well, aside from the fact that I'm shooting with a f1.8 55mm which is hard to focus manually anyways, my camera is ancient and the viewfinder is a disaster! So mix that together with an astigmatism and you've got perfectly blurred film photos. Anyways..]
This was a LONG time coming, and after she recently cut her hair yet again, I couldn’t resist any longer!
Andrea Lee:
(she is so petite! We were pinning clothes left and right, needless to say Promise’s size 7 shoes didn’t quite fit! She was such a sport)
